Why does everyone here hate boats? (2024)

After reading SA regularly and consistently since its founding, I've finally realized whats so weird about it - everyone - or so it seems - who posts here hates almost every boat ever made!

Regularly dissed:

All J Boats (except J-35, sometimes. I mean, who wants to handle those genoas!)

All C&C boats

All Carroll Marine boats ( I will concede people like the Mumm 30 design)

Columbia 30

FT10 - even the Ed has chimed in on this one!

Beneteaus (tho for the life of me I don't know why some people like the 36.7)

The only boats that seem to get regular props is the M-32, which we all know is a practical boat, designed for the widest possible market. (hope you all get sarcasm)

uh, you mean the complaining like what you're doing? We are like marge and homer in the simpsons, we've gotten so tired of eachother and nothing new happens that we have to dis other boats or people. (paraphrased from when they explained to lisa why its ok to talk behind people's backs when you're married...)

also, CnC, bendyslows, (columbia 30 was only dissed by me if i recall), ft10 was only diessed a while ago about the sails and few tools like yourself trying to stir the pot, havent heard anything about carrol marine being dissed and its really the newer boats that get dissed (save for the j24). if you were actually here long enough to understand this weird, often confused, website you would know that the m32 itself underwent much fire after last years KWRW (thats key west race week).

Hey Consho if your going to recomend someone start taking pills I think you should start with your mother. I would have never left her if she hadn't missed the one that let you pop out.

yeah, thats what i said . Also, i thought it was also due to not having #4's? And note that i dont hold anything against the owners for making that decision, most hadnt had the boat all that long etc)

Beats me. I like most sailboats... except of course Mac 26x's, dock condos, anything manufactured out of fiberglass, any boat longer than 32 ft., most of the boats that I can't afford, anything inflatable particularly if it has a motor, boats that draw more than 3 ft. of water, megayachts, etc., etc...

Seriously I think it's mostly a matter of ego. The owner of a sailboat thinks that he has made the absolute best decision in choosing his boat and everyone else's choice is flawed and stupid.

Since its founding huh? So you remember the old format and the fact that we rarely even discussed boats? Do you miss Sean and his far right automatic weapon posts?

No one here hates boats, some people hate certain boats. Kinda like the way you hate that voice in your head. I for one don't hate boats, I hate multihulls, they aren't boats.

we all like some boats better then others, but we all like sail over power.

Consho, it's not that they hate boats, rather, the problem is that many of the people here are very insecure about their sailing ability. This insecurity manifests itself in pathological need to put down nearly all boats except TP52's, VOR 70's, and maybe a few others, as not being good enough for them to sail on. By continually dissing any boat that you might find swinging to a mooring at your local yacht club, they construct, in their own minds at least, a persona of themselves as sailors at the very top of the sport. One thing that I have noticed about this pathology is that it's crucially important to those afflicted with it, not to miss a single opportunity to diss these boats. That is why, for example, they all have to pile on to any thread about the J105.

Love fests are sooooo boring. It is much more fun to poke at people until the react and some topics are like chum for sharks. You know things are getting fun when the popcorn and beer start flowing.

The real reason is that there are tools that don't like anything that costs more than a Eugo while going slower than a Ferrari. And there are tools on the other side that don't like anything that is slowere or smaller than thier trophie boat. To top that all off, we all have our favorite boat and are prone to shamelesly extoling thiere vritures. Just don't take too much of it seriously and you'll do fine.
