“But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived (II Tim. 3:13).”  Yes, Paul was speaking of the times in which Timothy was living in.  The wicked would grow worse, the false teachers would grow in number.  In Timothy’s lifetime he likely witnesses the persecution of Nero against Christians, that resulted in the deaths of Paul and Peter.  He saw not only the false circumcision doctrines hurt the church, but he like John would have witnessed the Gnostics wreaking havoc upon the faith of many Christians in the later half  of the 1st century. However, these words seem so true for 21st century America.  In the past couple of weeks we have seen some frightening trends that have taken shape in this country.  Our government can now court martial an active duty soldier for sharing his faith with others.  (While this has been the standard for chaplains for many years now, it is has only recently been universally applied.  It does not matter if the soldier is in his own home, on his own time, he is not permitted to teach anyone the gospel, let he be in danger of being dishonorably discharged.  In the meantime, the NBA has had its first active player openly admit that he is gay.  Media pundits have likened him to Jackie Robinson.  Many have called him a hero (the same word that used to use to speak of the firefighters and police officers who lost their lives at the twin towers on 9-11).  Christians are being blasted for teaching their beliefs while the gays and lesbians are being hailed as heroes for stating theirs.  Planned Parenthood has also been busy this past week as they have had two major victories.  The first of which would now place the day after pill (or as I like to call it, the abortion pill) on our grocery shelves.  (It has been considered over the counter, but one still had to ask a Pharmacist, much like Sudafed).  But now, it will be readily available for one to purchase, right next to the Tylenol, Nyquil and other shelf approved over the counter drugs.  To make matters worse, 15 year old girls are being permitted to purchase them without parental supervision or approval.  It baffles the mind that our government has issues with anyone buying Sudafed, but have no issues giving children day after pills.  The other victory for Planned Parenthood came from the Obamacare network.  It has come out that not only does Obama support Planned Parenthood, but his health care reform will be heavily funding this wicked organization.  Planned Parenthood has been given approval to create curriculum to teach sex education in the public schools.  The images used to do this are so graphic that national newspaper refused to print them because of the pornographic images.  My friends when the liberal media is blushing due to the nature of this material, it ought to tell us something about its content.
Yes my friends,
“evil men and imposters will proceed from bad to worse deceiving and being deceived (II Tim. 3:13).”  But, that does not tell us what we need to be doing.  Some contend that we need to be more active politically.  If we could only get our message out or get the right person in the white house we could make a difference.  How quickly we forget.  Bush was a pro-lifer and yet, abortion is still legal in this country.  One man in the white house is not going to bring this country back from the wickedness that it is openly engaging in.  Other might contend that we do nothing.  There is nothing we can do.  Wicked men will do wicked things and we just need to keep to ourselves and live a quiet life.  Again, how quickly we forget.  It is one unwillingness of Christians to say anything or do anything that put us into this position in the first place.  So what should we do?  Let us consider what Paul went on to say to Timothy.
“You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them; and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be perfectly equipped for every good work.  I solemnly charge you... preach the word (II Tim. 3:14-4:2).”
Paul did not tell Timothy to just live a quiet life.  He did not tell Timothy to get involved politically.  He told Timothy to preach the word.  They very word that will give you wisdom that leads to salvation.  The very word that will perfectly equip man with what God has given him to do.  Consider the words of Jeremiah, “Is it nothing to all you who pass this way (Lam. 1:12)?”  Jeremiah said this as he looked over  a city in ruins.  Brethren as we look over a nation in spiritual ruin I ask you, ‘Is it nothing to all you who pass this way?”  Can you stand idly by and do nothing?  Or, will you do as Paul encouraged Timothy and preach the word.
